baby formula bottleSpencer, Iowa — Four people from Minnesota are in custody in Spencer, accused of stealing baby formula and tobacco products.

The Spencer Police Department reports that they arrested four people on Saturday evening, in connection with what they’re calling a “shoplifting spree” that involved retail stores in Spencer and Spirit Lake.

Spencer officers claim the foursome are from the Twin Cities area and have been going from town to town, hitting big box stores such as Walmart and taking hundreds of dollars’ worth of baby formula and tobacco products. Spencer officers say these items were then re-sold in the twin cities.

Charged with Second Degree Theft were 23-year-old Deanna Pugh of Wabasha, MN; 43-year-old Jozette Milton; 34-year-old Curtis Watson; and a 17-year-old boy, all from St. Paul.

The boy and Watson were also charged with possession of controlled substance-marijuana.

The adults were taken to the Clay County Jail in Spencer, and the juvenile was taken to the YES Center in Cherokee.

Second Degree Theft is a class D felony.

Spencer Police say more charges are expected to be filed from other agencies as the investigation continues.

So who buys black market baby formula? I mean, my understanding is all those who are economically disadvantaged are eligible for WIC which provides things like formula for the babes. Which is what it is. I’m ready to start reading about the black market for Tide…oh wait… (Google That) Ok, maybe the black market for Mac & Cheese?

Well with the government shut down, there was no WIC program available. There is no excuse for the drugs though!!! Other than being high and thinking they could get away with it! All I can say is….. Drug testing is needed!

  2. Robert Keller says:

The real cost, not just the cost of gas, to drive round trip down here from the cities to steal baby formula and tobacco, sounds like a no profit situation.

  3. SW says:

So if the government is shut down, steal formula? Sounds like a win, win deal to me. I should have stolen some for my baby as well instead of paying CASH for it! I don’t think that is quite right, Rhonda.

    • Rhonda says:

SW… Think outside the box for once! WIC is shut down = no help for parents that can’t afford the formula.

Idiot steals a box of formula that cost $80 or more (so that is free). Turns around and sells it for a profit of $20-$40 dollars, the Idiot just made some money, and the low income parent just saved $40, $60, or more so they can feed their baby.

People do stupid things!…. Obviously some people caught my drift, I have 3 likes on my comment!
