Four-year-old Injured In Car Accident In Sheldon On Monday

Sheldon, Iowa — A 4-year-old boy was injured in an accident on Monday (12/10) in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 6:45 PM, 36-year-old Rachel Esser of Sheldon was eastbound on Highway 18 in a 2005 Chrysler. Thirty-year-old Dana Klein of Sheldon was also eastbound behind Esser in a 2003 Toyota.

According to the report, Esser was stopped, waiting to turn north onto North Seventh Avenue. Klein struck the Esser vehicle. According to the report, Klien advised that she had removed her son, 4-year-old Andrew Castillo from the car seat which was upside-down on the seat. Officer Hegenbarth reports that the child received a cut lip and a large cut on the left side of his head.

The child was transported to Sanford Sheldon by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.

Esser’s Chrysler received $3000 damage. Klein’s Toyota received $5500 damage.

Klein was charged with failure to secure child.
