Fundraiser Planned For Sheldon High School Student

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon teen has been enduring some medical issues, and now a fundraiser is planned to help her family with her expenses.

According to the fundraiser’s organizers, for the last few years, Jessica Mohn has been dealing with some medical issues that up until recently were unexplainable. Over the last few months, she has been through extensive testing at the Mayo Clinic and they have now diagnosed her with Dysautonomia Syndrome with symptoms of POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). April Schaeffer is helping to organize the fundraiser, and she tells us more.

Schaeffer says the family was also told that their type of program does not qualify them to stay at the Ronald McDonald House so they will need to rent a place or stay in hotels. The Mohn family is looking at extensive medical bills, additional living and travel expenses and loss of income, says Schaeffer.

She says Mohn is an active member of band, choir, speech, and theater at Sheldon High School. She says the fundraiser is tied to that.

Langer’s will be providing a soup and sandwich meal with many tasty treats (donated by other community volunteers) and a drink, at the Sheldon High School Commons that night, Monday, December 17th, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Schaeffer says there will also be a T-shirt fundraiser for Dysautonomia Awareness available to purchase by filling out THIS FORM or shirts can be ordered the night of the benefit supper for $10. All proceeds will be given to the Mohn family to help defray their medical costs.

She says that if you would like to contribute a monetary donation, an account has been established at Northwestern Bank in Sheldon and checks can be made out to “Jessica Mohn Benefit.”

Again, the fundraiser is at the Sheldon High School Commons Monday evening, December 17th, from 5 to 7 p.m.
