Funds Being Raised For New Education Center At Lake Pahoja

Inwood, Iowa — Funds are being raised to construct a county conservation education center adjacent to a county park in Lyon County.

Lyon County Conservation Board Director Craig Van Otterloo tells us about the planned center.

Van Otterloo tells us the purpose of the center.

According to Van Otterloo, environmental education is growing by leaps and bounds and the Conservation Board’s current facilities cannot accommodate visitors.
He tells us about the fundraising effort so far.

According to Van Otterloo, it will be an environmental education building that will be used for schools, civic groups, nursing/retirement homes, 4H, scouts, youth groups, daycares, and general public programs. It will also have viewing areas with various animal specimens (both live and mounted), Blood Run artifacts, interactive learning displays, and a facility that can hold up to 200 visitors.

The Lyon County Conservation Foundation is doing a fundraising campaign now, asking for help from county residents and businesses.

He says they hope to get some more grant funding as well.

Plus, Van Otterloo tells us that they will also try to get a grant from the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation toward the project.

If you would like more information, or if you’d like to donate, you’re invited to call Lyon County Conservation at (712) 472-2217.
