Sheldon, Iowa – Twelve Sheldon businesses competed for the honor of having their Hot Dog Day hot dogs voted “Top Dog” by a panel of judges coordinated by the Sheldon Chamber & Development Corporation.
Of the twelve competitors, G&E Cabinetry was the Top Dog winner for 2019.
Chamber Executive Shanelle Matus tells KIWA that the judging was done by a three-member panel. The panel of judges were presented with hot dogs from each of the twelve business competing, and judging was done in one location. She says the judges had no idea whose hot dogs they were sampling during the taste test. The judges awarded 10 points on the taste of the hot dogs and 5 points for the toppings.
Once the taste test portion of the contest was completed, the judges visited each contestant’s business, awarding points for size of crowd and theme of the individual business’ Hot Dog Day entry.
Once the votes were tallied, G&E Cabinetry of Sheldon came away with the 2019 Top Dog Award. Matus says G&E Cabinetry was awarded the Top Dog Trophy, and earned bragging rights until Hot Dog Day 2020.
