George, Iowa — The new George, Iowa celebration is this weekend in George. George has had a long history of festivities and fireworks on the Fourth of July. This year they decided to change it so they could have more days for more activities. The new festival, called Freedom Days is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in George — with youth fishing and beanbag tournaments actually on the Fourth.
On Friday night, they’ll have the George Street Dance, with the gates opening at 6 PM and the band, “The Dweebs” playing from 8:30 to 12:30. We had a chance to talk with the lead singer of “the Dweebs”, Ben Blue.
He says they’re a Wisconsin band, based around the twin cities. They’ve been playing some area festivals and have started playing festivals into Iowa recently. He says they have a lot of fun and so do the people that come and watch them. He says they play all kinds of music.
He gives us a taste of some of the music you can expect to hear.
However, Blue says they’ve also got some of their own material as well.
Blue says they’ve got a lot of fun planned.
Again, that’s this Friday night at the George Street Dance.
Also going on for Freedom days — On Friday it’s the Kid’s Pedal Pull and the Miss George/Little Miss George Pageant. Saturday is the 5k Fun Run/Walk, Duck Races, the parade, antique tractor pull, hog roast fundraiser, performances by Tonic Sol Fa, and the big fireworks show. Then Sunday there’s a Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast fundraiser. That’s all this weekend in George.
