Girl Found At Bottom Of Rock Rapids Swimming Pool Wednesday Night Has Died

Rock Rapids, Iowa — The young girl who was found at the bottom of the Rock Rapids swimming pool on Wednesday night (7/25) has passed away at a Sioux Falls Hospital.

The Lyon County Ambulance was called to an emergency call at the pool. Lyon County Sheriff Blythe Bloemendaal says the call came in about 7:30 PM.

He says 11-year-old Kaitlyn M. Heyden of rural Inwood was noticed at the bottom of the pool. Authorities don’t know how she got there. He says they don’t want to speculate on the cause of the incident yet, but they are following up on possible “pre-existing medical conditions”.

After local ambulance crews took Heyden to Sanford, Rock Rapids Hospital; she was soon airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital, where she has since passed away.

Sheriff Bloemendaal reports the incident is still under investigation.
