Grain Elevator Struck By Fire Will Be Ready For Harvest

Primghar, Iowa — After a fire at Nicholson & Edwards Grain Company in Primghar a week ago, things are slowly returning to a “new normal”.

Kurt Edwards co-owns the company with his brothers Jim and Tom.

He says while they did lose a lot of storage capacity, they didn’t lose it all.

He explains what was lost in the fire.

He says they also lost about 20,000 bushels of soybeans in the fire.

Edwards says the fire could have been much worse. He says they’re also thankful that except for the smoke, there was no effect to their neighbors’ property.

He tells us that as far as this harvest goes, they’ll be able to accept all the soybeans they usually do, but they might have to ask for help storing corn.

He has a message for the volunteers and community.

Edwards says they do have insurance and they are “optimistic that they can rebuild something someday.”
