Grant Facilitates Workshop For Librarians, Museum Curators

sheldon museumSheldon, Iowa — Librarians, museum curators, library and museum board members and others who work with preserving our history are gathering in Sheldon this Monday, February 27th for a workshop focusing on engaging with those who visit their facilities.

O’Brien County Economic Development Director Kiana Johnson says it’s the third workshop in a series of workshops funded by a grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. She says it’s being facilitated by the Iowa Museum Association. It runs from from 8:00 a.m. until noon at the Holiday Inn Express in Sheldon.

Johnson says the hands-on workshop will have participants develop an institutional inventory of audience experiences and will pinpoint areas for development that both align with their mission and address the unmet needs in their community. Then, after contemplating case studies that illustrate successful collaborations, participants will work in teams to apply best practices in the collaborative process. They’ll talk about distinguishing specific visitor types, identifying barriers to engagement, and establishing approaches to increase community access.
