Sheldon, IA — Members of the Sheldon Community District KIDS Committee, Sheldon School District administrators, high school cheerleaders, as well as the faculty, staff and student body at East Elementary in Sheldon, along with several community and media members were on Hand Friday afternoon at ground was officially broken for the beginning of the East Elementary remodel and addition project.
School Board President Gary Ihnen talks about the process of getting to this point.
Ihnen told us he got a great feeling when going to the polls for the bond issue election.
He also commented on the reaction of the elementary children at Friday’s ground breaking.
The addition will provide eight additional classrooms, as well as expanded administrative office space and a new gym that will be built to withstand tornado force winds. Superintendent Robin Spears told the group that the lawn west of the school would begin to be worked within an hour of Friday’s ground breaking ceremony, with foundation work scheduled to begin Monday.
Here is a video of the KIDS Committee’s Lisa Johnson breaking the ground for the project with an excavator. It was posted on the KIDS Committee’s Facebook page.
