Harkin To Make Appearence In Northwest Iowa

Spencer, Iowa — In a rare northwest Iowa appearance, Senator Tom Harkin is going to speak in Spencer on Thursday (8/30).
Harkin will be at the Spencer Area Activity Center on East Fourth Street. The appearance will start at 9:45 AM.
The Senator plans to outline his proposed retirement security plan that was unveiled in late July. The plan proposes changes to Social Security to strengthen retirement funding.
Senator Harkin will also discuss the drought and the need for a farm bill.
He’ll also make northwest Iowa stops in Ida Grove and Sioux City on Monday.

I wouldn’t walk across the room to see this liberal.
The article says it all – “In a rare northwest Iowa appearance”. There is still a small liberal enclave in the lakes area and also staff at White Trash State College in Sheldon.
I look forward to his visit. I’m guessing the original press release didn’t use the words “rare northwest Iowa appearance”. A bit negative way to present it I would say. As to the comments so far. Wow. Talk about grumpy people. “White Trash State College in Sheldon” is a bit uncalled for. I’m not a huge fan of Grassley and am having some reservations about Harkin but the least we can do is show some respect. One might be enlightened if one got passed the biases and actually went to meet our elected officials.
Some rebuttles for your comments Barb. For one I don’t think I was disrespectful in any manner. I was simply stating that I would not over exert myself to see him. Calling him a liberal is a title that I would think even Mr Harkin himself would not dispute. As for getting past my bias and meeting the individual: Mr Harkin’s voting record speaks for itself. I admit I have never met him in person, and assume that having tea together he would be a delightful individual to converse with. When it comes to his political views: we couldn’t be further apart and I don’t have to meet him in person to know that, the public record is there. Anyone who is in favor of killing unborn babies and passing a health care plan that forces everyone to have health care and all the other liberal (there’s that nasty word again) ideals that he stands for, I would just assume not meet him. Now we have come full circle to my earlier comment on the news story.
