Date posted - December 4, 2013

Jail Door2Spirit Lake, Iowa — A Harris man has been sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted last month of first degree kidnapping and second degree sexual assault.

According to court records, on November 22, 2012, 44-year-old Walter Norem assaulted a woman he knew in Milford. Records show he broke out a window in her car, and told her she was coming with him. They also allege that Norem threw her to the ground. That caused scrapes and cuts on her knees and her chin. Then he took her back to his home in Harris, where the assault continued. He also would not let her use the phone or leave. When he fell asleep, she escaped.

He was convicted by a Dickinson County Jury on November 1, 2013.

His attorney has 30 days from Monday’s (December 2, 2013) sentencing to file an appeal.
