Hartley Man Dies While In Custody In Nebraska

Hartley, Iowa — A Hartley man, who was in the process of moving to Nebraska with his family, passed away earlier this week, while in the custody of the Dixon County, Nebraska Jail.

According to a source close to the family, 37-year old Matthew Kruse suffered a seizure while in the Dixon County Jail, and was pronounced dead after being rushed to a Sioux City hospital. The source says an autopsy was to have been performed on Kruse’s body yesterday (Thursday).

KIWA contacted the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office for information on Kruse’s death, and was referred to the Dixon County Attorney’s Office.  The County Attorney’s Office told us they were “not authorized to release any information on the matter.” When asked if they could confirm, or deny, Kruse’s passing, they advised us they “were not at liberty to confirm or deny” the incident.

Funeral services for Kruse are pending, according to our source.
