Hawarden Man Taken To Hospital After Swerving To Miss Deer, Rolling SUV

Ambulance rear blue and whiteRock Valley, Iowa — A Hawarden man was taken to the hospital after he swerved to miss a deer and rolled his SUV on Saturday.

The SCSO reports that about 10 PM Saturday night, 26-year-old Jeffery Bakker of Hawarden was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on 315th Street, three miles southwest of Rock Valley. Bakker reported that a deer entered the roadway; he swerved, lost control of his vehicle and rolled the vehicle.

Bakker was transported to Hegg Memorial Hospital by the Rock Valley Ambulance.

The Chevrolet sustained approximately $10,000 in damages.

Bakker was cited for failure to maintain control.

The Rock Valley Police Department, Rock Valley Fire Department and Rock Valley Ambulance assisted the Sioux County Sherifff’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation.
