Hearing Regarding Firing Of Hartley Police Chief Scheduled For Tuesday Evening At Hartley Community Center

Date posted - January 17, 2014

Mark YounieHartley, Iowa — A public hearing has been set in regard to the recent firing of the Hartley police chief.

Mark Younie was removed from his post on Friday, January 3rd by Hartley Mayor Clayton Pyle. Younie says it was a complete surprise, as the Mayor had previously not addressed any of the issues cited in the termination letter.

Pyle and the City Council have scheduled the hearing for Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 7 PM at the Hartley Community Center.

Several citizens packed the Hartley Council Chambers on Monday night, January 13th, most of them in support of Younie.  Several people are also expected at the hearing on Tuesday.

In the meantime, Officer Jordan Kerr has been appointed as interim police chief.

KIWA is planning on covering the meeting and we will provide a report.
