Hickman, Rensink Continue As School Board Pres & VP

Sheldon-Schools-logoSheldon, Iowa — Kecia Hickman will continue to serve as Sheldon School Board President, with Susan Rensink as Vice President following action at Monday evening’s Annual Meeting of the Sheldon Community Schools Board of Education.

In addition to the election of Board President and Vice President, the Board also appointed Randy Merley as their representative on the O’Brien County Conference Board, and Kecia Hickman to represent the Board on the Sioux County Conference Board.  They also appointed Susan Rensink as the School Board Representative on the Sheldon Education Foundation.

In other business, the Board approved a series of contracts for service for the next year, named Tom Whorley and the law firm of Wolff, Whorley, De Hoogh & Schreurs as legal counsel for the Sheldon Community School District for the 2016-17 school year.  The Board also named Citizen’s State Bank, Northwestern Bank, Iowa State Bank, Ashton State Bank, and Peoples Bank as depository banks for District funds.

The Board also disposed of several other items of business to wrap up the 2015-16 school year, and move ahead into the current year.

In other action, the Board approved four Open Enrollment Applications; three for students coming into the Sheldon District, and one leaving.  The Board also approved an employment contract for Kasey Trampel who will fill the newly-created District Information Technology Coordinator position.  Trampel will be paid $37,950 a year.

The High School Band and Vocal Music students will be traveling to Orlando, Florida this coming April.  The Board approved that trip at their Monday meeting.

In other action, the Board approved a resolution proclaiming American Education Week, which is November 11th through 18th.  They also established the date and time for school board meetings for this school year.  Those meetings will be held the second Monday of each month, and will begin at 5:00 pm.

The Board’s next meeting will be a special session on Thursday, November 10th from 5 until 8 pm, when they’ll meet with a consultant from the Iowa Association of School Boards to help establish Board goals.  The next regular meeting of the Sheldon School Board will be Monday, November 14th, and will include an executive session for the purpose of the Superintendent’s Quarterly Review.
