Hull Coop Semi Driven By Boyden Man Rolls Over Near Le Mars

Law Enforcement Lightbar redLe Mars, Iowa — A semi owned by a Hull business and driven by a Boyden man received heavy damage in a semi rollover near Le Mars on Tuesday morning.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 8:45 AM, 39-year-old Dwayne Hansmann of Boyden was driving a 2008 Peterbuilt tractor and fuel tanker trailer, owned by Hull Coop Association, eastbound on C44, about three miles south of Le Mars, or four and a half east of Merrill. The report says Hansmann became distracted while trying to place a phone call. The truck went onto the south shoulder, and then entered the south ditch rolling three-quarters of the way over and coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Deputies learned that the semi was hauling 7300 gallons of #1 and #2 diesel fuel. At that point there had been no release of material at the scene. The Le Mars Fire Department was dispatched to the scene to assist with the hazmat situation.

Damage to the truck and trailer was estimated at $175,000.

Hansmann was ticketed for failure to maintain control.

The Le Mars Fire Department and the Iowa DOT enforcement assisted the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
