Hull, Iowa — A Hull woman narrowly escaped serious injury after a piece of scrap steel crashed through her windshield early Tuesday morning.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that 23-year-old Rebecka Jansmer of Hull was driving a 1994 Chevrolet K1500 pickup southbound on Hickory Avenue. She was following a pickup that had its tailgate down, and was loaded with scrap steel. The truck drifted, swerved back to the left and lost several pieces of the load. A steel pipe struck the windshield of Jasmer’s vehicle, narrowly missing her. The steel pipe was driven straight through the windshield, very near the driver’s seat.
The pickup that was carrying the steel is described as being a late model Ford. It continued driving southbound. The color of the pickup is unknown.
Jasmer did receive only minor injuries, and was transported to the Sioux Center Hospital by the Hull Ambulance. The Chevy pickup sustained about $500 in damages. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hull Ambulance.
Anyone with information about the Ford pickup that was transporting the steel is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office. If you wish to remain anonymous you may use the Text-A-Tip program.
