ILCC $16 Million Bond Vote Tuesday

Estherville, Iowa — Voters in the Iowa Lakes Community College service area are deciding the fate of a $16 million bond referendum on Tuesday, February 9th. A snow storm last week caused the Iowa Secretary of State’s office to postpone the election to the 9th.

According to college officials, the proposal is a property tax of 11.7 cents per thousand on residential property and 21 cents per thousand on agricultural land for a 15-year term. According to state law, the bond issue needs a 60 percent supermajority to pass.

The funds would go to pay for a series of capital projects at the college’s campuses in Algona, Emmetsburg, Estherville, Spencer and Spirit Lake.

A small part of our coverage area is included in Iowa Lakes’ territory, including portions of the Harris-Lake Park School District in Osceola County and parts of the Clay Central Everly and Sioux Central School Districts in O’Brien Country.

Polls are open from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM, and polling locations can be found at iowalakes.edu/bond.
