Hull, Iowa — Injuries were minor, but several tractors were damaged when distracted driving caused an accident near Hull, according to Sioux County authorities.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that just into Sunday — at midnight, in fact, 17-year-old Andrea Kersten of Hull was driving a 1999 Plymouth Neon eastbound on Highway 18 when she became distracted by the use of a cell phone. Kersten lost control of the vehicle, which then entered the south ditch and struck four tractors parked on the Van’s Implement lot.
Kersten and a passenger, 17-year-old Aleshia TeSlaa of Rock Valley were both transported by the Hull Ambulance to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.
The Plymouth sustained approximately $6,000 in damages. An Agco‐Allis 9445 farm tractor sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages. A 1982 John Deere 4440 farm tractor sustained about $1500 in damages. A 1980 International 1086 farm tractor sustained an estimated $2,000 in damages. And a 1996 Massesy‐Ferguson 8150 farm tractor sustained about $500 in damages.
Kersten was cited for failure to maintain control of the vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hull Fire Department and Hull Ambulance crew.
