Inmate Convicted Of First Degree Murder In 1997 Slaying Back In Court In Spencer
Date posted - May 5, 2014
Now 33-year-old Ryan Wedebrand has been in prison for 16 years. He was convicted of taking part in the kidnapping, which happened in Spencer, and the murder, which happened in rural Petersberg, in Jackson County, Minnesota. Court records indicate the slaying was drug-related.
But since he was a juvenile at the time, Wedebrand is taking advantage of a new U.S. Supreme Court ruling that made it possible for anyone convicted as a juvenile to request re-sentencing.
Parents of Gregory “Sky” Erickson, the teen who was killed are against Wedebrand being released, and want a life sentence without parole. They spoke at the hearing.
A judge will review the testimony and rule on the case on May 16th.
