Iowa Senate Candidate Sam Clovis Visits With KIWA Radio

Sam ClovisSheldon, Iowa — There are currently six Republicans and one Democrat who have announced they are running for the seat now held by US Senator Tom Harkin, who has announced his retirement.

We had a chance to speak with one of the Republican candidates recently. Sam Clovis took time out of his schedule to talk to us. Many people think of Clovis as a talk show host, and that is something that he has done, but he has a long background in both the military and the private sector.

Clovis says we need to look for three things in the next Senator: Leadership and courage to admonish members of both parties, stewardship of resources, and statesmanship — someone who can provide a vision for the nation.

We’ll be posting the entire interview with Clovis on our website in the future.

We have also received word that Clovis will attend the O’Brien County Republican Summer Gala on Friday, August 16, 2013.

The other Republican candidates for Harkin’s Senate seat are State Senator Joni Ernst; attorney and nominee for Iowa’s 4th congressional district in 1988 and 1992 Paul Lunde; car salesman Scott Schaben; former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa and nominee for Treasurer of Iowa in 2002 Matthew Whitaker and former Chief of Staff to Senator Chuck Grassley, David Young.

The Democrat who has announced he’s running is Congressman Bruce Braley.
