Iowa State Patrol Safety Officer Provides Safety And Efficiency Tips For Dealing With RAGBRAI

Sheldon, Iowa — It’s RAGBRAI time in Iowa. We talked with Iowa State Patrol Trooper and Safety Officer Vince Kurtz about some safety tips for navigating northwest Iowa during the bike ride. Vince Kurtz ISP

Kurtz says there are always two kinds of people during these events.

He says people will need to plan a little, no matter which group they’re in. More than likely, you will have to take an alternate route on Sunday. He says people can go to RAGBRAI.com to find the routes.

He says that if you’re trying to GET to RAGBRAI, he has some advice.

He says if you are riding a bike in RAGBRAI or just to get to where you need to be, his main advice is to wear a bike helmet. He also says that traffic control devices still need to be obeyed, even if you’re on a bike — even if you’re on RAGBRAI. He also says bicyclists need to make sure ahead of time that they’re equipment is in good shape, including chain, brakes, and properly-inflated tires.
