ISU Extension To Hold Garden Composting Workshop

Sioux Center, Iowa – Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host a free Garden  Composting Workshop this coming Saturday, June 23rd, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Sioux Center Public Library.

Composting is a great thing for your garden and the environment. It enhances soil quality and helps keep yard and garden waste out of landfills, according to ISU Extension and Outreach Horticulture Educator Margaret Murphy.

Murphy says the workshop will talk about soil health and how to compost at home. She says they’ll also have a fun activity for the kids, to teach them about composting. Murphy asks that you bring one clean, wide-mouth jar for each of your children who would like to participate.

Here is the schedule for next Saturday’s Garden Composting Workshop:
9:30-9:45 a.m. – Check-in and Coffee
9:45-10:30 a.m. – Soil Health Presentation by Margaret Murphy
10:30-10:35 a.m. – Break
10:35-11:35 a.m. – Composting How-To Presentation by Becky Drissell, Master Composter
11:35-12:15 p.m. – Kid’s Activity

Murphy says the event is free and open to the public, and no prior registration is necessary.
