Heroes Behind the Badges Reaches Record Collection

The 5th annual Heroes Behind the Badges blood drive ended with tremendous record setting success.

The blood drive held on February 7 and 16 was a friendly competition between Sheldon Police Department / SCAT and Sheldon Fire Department / EMA. It was a close competition right up to the end of the blood drive.

In the end it was the Fire Department / EMA winning with 59 donation votes vs. the Police Department / SCAT with 58 donation votes. A total of 117 community members participated in this years blood drive event making this the most successful Heroes Behind the Badges.

During the blood drive donors could designate their donation to the department of their choice. All the blood collected helped local area patients of Sanford Sheldon.

This was a terrific event, states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. February is a very difficult time for the blood supply, primarily due to a decrease in donations because of the cold and flu season. This was a very well attended event and will make a difference in many local patients lives.

Sheldon Chamber and Development Corporation, Sanford Sheldon and Community Blood Bank would like to thank all the departments and community members involved with this years event, helping to save many patients lives.

Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood and blood products to Sanford Sheldon and 29 other local hospitals.
