Jackson, Minnesota Woman Found Dead In Rural Spirit Lake; Spirit Lake Man Charged With Murder

crime scene tape over lightbarRural Spirit Lake, Iowa — A Jackson, Minnesota woman is dead, and a Spirit Lake man is in custody, charged with murder.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office reports they were called to a rural Spirit Lake home for an unresponsive female at 10:25 PM on Sunday,December 8th, 2013. The woman, identified as 36-year-old Sarah Renee Grimmius of Jackson, Minnesota was deceased when Sheriff’s Deputies arrived. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

Twenty-one-year-old Tailer James Handsaker of Spirit Lake has been arrested and booked into the Dickinson County Jail on a charge of 1st Degree Murder in connection with the case.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released any information on how Grimmius died.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office has been assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Spirit Lake Police, Arnolds Park Police, Jackson County MN Sheriff’s Office, Dickinson County Attorney’s Office, Spirit Lake Rescue and Lakes Regional Hospital Ambulance.

The investigation continues.

Handsaker made his initial court appearance on Tuesday, December 10th, and is currently being held on $500,000 bond.
