Jail Lighting Upgrade Means More Light, Less Cost

Jail Lighting LiftPrimghar, Iowa — Benefits to the environment, taxpayers, jail staff, and inmates — all of those reasons could be listed as rationale for a lighting upgrade at the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.

O’Brien County Sheriff Allen Schuknecht says they have upgraded the lighting in the jail as part of an energy savings program. He says Pixler Electric of Spencer has installed new LED light fixtures in the jail pods and exercise area.

Schuknecht says that this time of year when they aren’t running the air conditioning system, their electric bills have been running around $2000 per month.

He says that another advantage to the LED bulbs is that they last so much longer than the fluorescents, so it’s more of a convenience factor.

Sheriff Schuknecht says there will likely be more lighting upgrades in other areas of the building.

The Sheriff says the new lighting seems to be getting good reviews so far.

He says the work in the jail was completed this past week.
