June Temperatures Above Normal

thermometer - 102 degreesSheldon, Iowa — This June has been warmer than the average June, according to weather records kept by KIWA Radio.

State Climatologist, Harry Hillaker, says temps highs were above normal for June.

In Sheldon, the average high temperature during the month of June was 83 degrees, which is 4 degrees above the normal of 79.  This year’s June was one degree warmer than 2015, when we saw an average high temperature of 78 degrees.

The low temperatures measured at the KIWA studios in June averaged 61.3 degrees, also about 4 degrees above the June lows last year.

Hillaker tells us that this June’s temperatures were more like those of a normal July.

Four inches of rain were measured at the KIWA studios in June, that’s a mere .09-inches higher than June, 2015.  Year to date rainfall in Sheldon is 18.65-inches, which is more than 5-inches above a normal year.
