Kurtz: Iowa Traffic Deaths Climb At Alarming Rate

Vince Kurtz ISPNorthwest Iowa — Traffic fatalities are up dramatically in Iowa, when compared to the same period in 2015.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz calls the increase “alarming”, with more than a 20% increase in fatalities over the same period last year.

Kurtz says that, with Labor Day weekend just a couple of weeks away, the Iowa State Patrol is organizing their efforts to try and keep motorists safe on the last holiday of summer.

He says that, of all the fatal crashes so far this year, there are some common denominators as to the causes.

Kurtz says it’s important to look past the numbers, and realize that the bottom line is there are 240 families who will have an empty chair at their Labor Day celebration this year.

Trooper Kurtz says it’s important to buckle up, watch your speed, eliminate distractions, and if you’ve been drinking, let someone else drive.
