La Nina Responsible For Recent Frigid Weather

Northwest Iowa — A weak La nina weather system is being blamed by meteorologists for the recent round of bone-chilling weather that has been visited upon the area.

Mike Fuhs is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, and he tells us that the current frigid temperatures will last through Saturday.

Fuhs says the cold daytime temps will be coupled with sub-zero lows.

He says there is, however, some relief on the horizon from the sub-zero cold.

Fuhs says the current La Nina is responsible for the unseasonably cold temperatures of late.

On the upside, Fuhs says there is no significant snowfall in our immediate future, since the airflow coming down from Canada, while cold, is reasonably dry.
