breast cancer pinkSheldon, Iowa — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Sanford Sheldon Medical Center, along with O’Brien County Relay for Life will present a fun and entertaining evening called “Ladies In Pink”, Tuesday evening, October 20th at the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center on the campus of Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.  The event will feature a vendor fair, dinner and speakers on the topic of breast cancer.

One of the speakers at this event will be Chris Dykstra of rural Sheldon.  She’ll share the story of her diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.  Dykstra told KIWA that her story started one day this past November.

She says she was told that she had an aggressive form of breast cancer, and her treatment began almost immediately.

Dykstra talked about what will happen at Tuesday’s Ladies In Pink event.

She gave us a little preview of the talk she’ll give at the event.

Dykstra said that the speaker presentations and vendor fair are free to attend, and tickets for the dinner are $15 each.  At last report, tickets were still available by calling Shawn Dreesen at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center, 712-324-6022, or emailing shawn.dreesen@sanfordhealth.org.
