Lake Pahoja To Host Ice Fishing Clinic/Derby Saturday

Inwood, Iowa — It used to be a Kids’ Ice Fishing Derby. Well, it still is, but it’s more than that now — it’s an Ice Fishing Clinic coming up this Saturday at Lake Pahoja, north of Inwood.

Lyon County Naturalist Emily Ostrander tells us more about the event.

As if that didn’t sound fun enough, she gives us a few more reasons you might want to consider attending.

According to Ostrander, everyone is welcome to come out and learn and do some ice fishing. If you are over 16, however, she reminds you that you do need an Iowa Fishing License.

Ostrander says the weather is supposed to be quite nice this week, so there is a little concern that the ice won’t be safe. If that’s the case, she says they’ll have to postpone it to a date to be determined. But she said that on Monday afternoon, the ice was still between eight and ten inches thick. So she was pretty sure that they’d be able to do the Ice Fishing Clinic as planned this Saturday, as long as no one drives on the ice. The National Weather Service says ice is safe to walk on as long as there are at least four inches of clear, strong ice.
