Lester Frozen Foods Company Almost Doubles Space

Lester, Iowa — A Lester business that started in 1992 by producing fundraising Butter Braids for a West Bend company has completed a large expansion.

Monty Van Wyhe with Dutchland Frozen Foods in Lester tells us about their business.

While they make many different products now, some of the most popular around northwest Iowa are their fundraising products, Butter Hearts, Pastry Puffins, and Puff Crust Pizzas. He says they also have many products for the wholesale bakery market from cinnamon rolls to croissants.

Van Wyhe tells us they currently employ 75 full-and-part-time employees, but with the expansion, they plan to hire up to 20 more employees. And he says right now, they are looking to hire a food safety expert.

He tells us they needed to expand for more production capacity.

Van Wyhe says they’ve expanded over the years to about 14,000 square feet, and the new addition almost doubles that space with an additional 12,000 square feet.

Iowa Lt. Governor Adam Gregg was on-hand on Friday to tour the new facility and help them celebrate the expansion.
