Lester, Iowa — The little town of Lester is going to have something it’s needed for quite a while. A new community center is going to be built in Lester, thanks in part to funds that the town has received from the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation — the nonprofit license holder for Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood. We had a chance to talk with Lester City Council Member Jeff Hoogeveen. He tells us they’re looking forward to the construction of the new facility.
He tells us about what they have planned.
Hoogeveen says they’re even going to provide a space to get healthy.
He says the kitchen will be accessible from both sides — the smaller fellowship area and the gym.
Hoogeveen says they asked for a 40 percent match from the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation. He says the project will cost about $600,000, so the foundation is paying 240,000 off the top, but Hoogeveen says they’re actually helping the city of Lester to pay for the community center in another way as well.
According to Hoogeveen, Lester is on the move.
There’s going to be a groundbreaking ceremony for the new community center in Lester at 5:30 PM on Monday evening (7/15/13).
