Date posted - June 29, 2012
Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Little Rock man has been sentenced to a fifteen-year prison term after he was convicted of making terroristic threats.
Lyon County Attorney Carl Petersen’s office reports that 59-year-old Arend Dean DeBoer of Little Rock has been sentenced for the crime of Threat of Terrorism, a Class D Felony.
DeBoer had been found guilty in a jury trial in May.
The attorney’s office reports that the initial complaint was filed in November of 2011. It states that DeBoer contacted the Farm Service Agency office in Rock Rapids by phone and stated to an employee of the FSA office that he wanted to blow up both the court and the employee. DeBoer stated to the employee that he didn’t mind sitting in jail for this.
DeBoer was sentenced to 15 years in prison with a minimum mandatory of 3 years to be served.
Petersen says DeBoer is a habitual offender. DeBoer was also charged with Harassment in the 2nd Degree, a Serious Misdemeanor. He was also found guilty of that charge in the May trial.
Petersen says that he is very satisfied with the Court recognizing the public safety risks of this defendant and sentencing him to prison.
