Lots Of Thunder And Lightning Reported Thursday Night, But Very Little Rain In NW Iowa

Date posted - August 24, 2012

Lyon County, Iowa — Lots of bark but very little “bite” in northwest Iowa as far as Thursday night’s storm.

There were many reports of continuous rolling thunder in northwest Iowa, especially in Lyon County. One listener reported thunder and lightning, but absolutely no rain. That report came from 21 miles northwest of Sheldon. In Rock Rapids, which is 23 miles northwest of Sheldon as the crow flies — three tenths of an inch of rain was reported.

BUT — just north of our area — in Minnesota, they had lots of rain and some hail as well. Hail from three-quarters of an inch to an an inch and a quarter was reported in Rock County, Minnesota.

Also, a mile northwest of Steen, heavy rain was reported. They had three and a half inches of rain. Street flooding was reported for a short time in Luverne as well.

We’d like to hear any weather reports you might have. Feel free to leave them in the comment section.
