Lyon County Deputies Kept Busy Over Holiday Period With Arrests

Sheriff car rear genericRock Rapids, Iowa — It’s been a busy holiday period so far for Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies. In addition to dealing with a number of mostly weather-related accidents, they’ve also handled a number of arrests.

A George woman was arrested on three charges, one of them a felony after she was found to be driving a vehicle she did not have permission to drive.

On December 29, 2013 at about 2:30 AM a Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a red Ford F150 pickup drive north on South Virginia Street in George. The officer had knowledge that the pickup had been reported stolen on December 28th. The vehicle was stopped in George and the driver, 45-year-old Jonna Langfeldt of George was found to be driving while having a revoked Iowa driver’s license. Upon further investigation it was determined that she was also operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Langfeldt was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense, a Class D Felony; Operating Without Owners Consent, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; and Driving While Revoked, a Serious Misdemeanor.

On Friday, December 20, 2013 at about 8:30 PM the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department responded to a disturbance in George. It was reported that someone had kicked another person’s pickup and caused damage to the box of the pickup. Thirty-seven-year-old Michael J. Van Engen of George was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree in connection with the damage.

On Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at about 3:00 AM 25-year-old Charla Ligdi of Worthington, Minnesota was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer southbound on Minnesota 20th Avenue and was approaching the T-intersection at 100th Street — the state line — north of Larchwood.  Due to the slight ice and snow on the road, Ligdi was unable to stop his vehicle at the stop sign.  It went through the intersection and entered the south ditch.  The vehicle sustained about $2500 in damages which were caused by hitting the ditch/embankment. Ligdi was cited for Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance.

On Sunday, December 22nd, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrested 48-year-old Carrie Trigg of Rock Rapids on charges of Assault on a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The arrest came after deputies responded to a call of a suspicious female in the 500 block of South Dickinson Street in Rock Rapids. Trigg is currently being held in the Lyon County Jail.

Also on Sunday, December 22nd The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Jonathan Datz of George on a Harassment charge.  Datz is currently out on bond.
