Lyon County Fair Officially Starts Monday

Lyon County Fair Rapid Speedway Combo SignRock Rapids, Iowa — Next in line for county fairs is the Lyon County Fair. The fair officially starts on Monday, July 18th, but there are some events yet this week.

Elaine Hinsch with the Lyon County Fair Board says there are a few things happening already on Saturday.


That gospel concert starts at 6:30 PM at First Reformed in Rock Rapids on Sunday night. Hinsch says Monday is a big day.


She says that 4-H will have plenty going on too.


Hinsch tells us about Tuesday’s activities.


She says members of Lyon County American Legion posts will be raising and lowering the flag at ceremonies during the fair. Monday, it’ll be raised at noon and retired at 7. Tuesday and Wednesday it will be raised at 8 and lowered at 7. Thursday, it will be raised at 8 and lowered at noon.

Hinsch tells us what’s going on on Wednesday.


She says those historical and ethnic demonstrations put on by the Lyon County Historical Society will be available Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at the fair. She says the fair wraps up on Thursday, July 21st.


Hinsch says they’re very proud of some new things at the fairgrounds.

Speaking of county fairs, Sioux’s wraps up this Thursday, July 14th. Osceola’s started Wednesday, July 13th and runs through Saturday, July 16th. O’Brien’s is Saturday, July 23rd through Thursday the 28th.
