Now, according to R&J’s New & Used Owner Roger Sterler, someone has come forward to identify the vehicle involved in the incident, and claim the reward.

Sheldon Police say they have charged 21-year old River Allen Zippe, of Wapello, Iowa, in the incident.  Police say Zippe faces charges of Failure To Report A Property Damage Accident, 4th Degree Criminal Mischief, and Failure To Maintain control.

Police say Zippe’s vehicle, a 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, was damaged to the extent that it left a right front plastic fender well, and a heat shield piece, at the scene of the crash.  Police say they notified body shops within a 25 mile radius of Sheldon to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

According to authorities, Zippe said he was southbound on 2nd Avenue, when he fell asleep, and his pickup veered to the right, just south of the intersection with 7th Street, colliding with several items of merchandise that were displayed in front of R&J’s New & Used.

In addition to the merchandise and large lighted sign that were damaged or destroyed, there was an estimated $2-thousand damage to Zippe’s truck.
