Sibley, Iowa — A Winona, Minnesota man who was accused of beating up his dad along Highway 60 almost a year ago, has been sentenced in the case.
Court records indicate that 29-year-old Ivie Thomas Popplewell III of Winona, Minnesota faced a charge of Assault Causing Serious Injury, a Class D Felony.
According to court records, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 that stated that someone was assaulting an older gentleman on Highway 60 near 250th Street. They say that the deputy responded and spoke with the reporting party and the victim, who was injured. Popplewell “took off running” according to court records, but was apprehended.
The plea bargain included reducing the felony charge from Assault Causing Serious Injury to a misdemeanor count of Assault. Popplewell was sentenced to 12 days in jail and a $65 fine.
