Matus: Small Businesses Important To Economy, Community

Northwest Iowa — This week has been National Small Business Week in the United States. The head of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Administrator Linda McMahon says that they remember the important role of small businesses during Small Business Week.

Shanelle Matus with the Sheldon Chamber and Development says small businesses are job creators and they fuel the economy.

Matus cited the recent Braelynn Tracy Fundraiser as an example. She says locally-owned businesses really pitch in when there is a need.

She says small businesses are essential to the employment part of the economy.

According to Matus, those involved in local businesses are also the ones who volunteer for emergency services and service clubs. She says supporting local small businesses brings a community together.
