May Is Trauma Month, Good Time To Give Blood

bloodNorthwest Iowa — May is the unofficial start of the summer season, and is also the time set aside to observe Trauma Month.

The summer season brings an increase in travel by car, motorcycle, and even boat.  Ken Versteeg of the Community Blood Bank says that the increase in travel, as well as other outdoor activities, brings with  it an increased need for blood products.

Versteeg says that the donation of one unit of blood can actually save three lives.

He says if you’d like to donate blood, there’s a blood drive coming to Sheldon later this month.

Versteeg says they’re not looking for specific blood types, and you don’t even need to know your blood type when you come to donate blood.  He says donating blood is easy to do, is basically painless, and it only takes about 30 to 35 minutes of your time to donate something that could save three lives.
