McAdam Gets 20 Years For Sex Abuse Of Minor

Orange City, Iowa — An Orange City (Middleburg) man accused of multiple felony sex crimes has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

According to court records, 56-year old Scott McAdam faced two counts of Second Degree Sexual Abuse, a class B felony; four counts of Third Degree Sexual Abuse, a class C felony; six counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a class C felony; an additional count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, this one an aggravated misdemeanor; eight counts of Invasion of Privacy, an aggravated misdemeanor; and Lascivious Conduct With A Minor, a serious misdemeanor.

The charges were filed in a sex assault investigation that led to McAdam’s arrest on November 20th, 2017. Authorities say the investigation led them to believe McAdam allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with two minor victims that allegedly took place at a home over a two-year time period.

On February 28, 2018, McAdam pled guilty under a plea agreement whereby the State would recommend a twenty-year sentence and McAdam could recommend a 10-year sentence. On Monday, March 5, 2018, McAdam was sentenced to a twenty-year sentence that was to be imposed immediately.

Twenty other sex-related charges against McAdam were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

The Sheriff’s Office investigation revealed McAdam had committed multiple sexual acts with a child. Police then seized and analyzed McAdam’s cell phone, finding sexually explicit photographs with the child, taken by McAdam.

McAdam admitted in court that he had inappropriate contact with a girl under the age of 14 and that he took nude photos of her with his cellphone.
