Medical Examiner Confirms Akron Man Died Of Shotgun Wound

Akron, Iowa — The cause of death has been released for a man who authorities say was murdered early Friday morning.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says that that 40-year-old Jeremy Barger Hebert of rural Akron was the victim of the shooting. They say they were called to a rural Akron address shortly after midnight on Friday, October 6th. According to Plymouth County Sheriff Mike Van Otterloo, when deputies arrived on the scene they discovered Hebert suffering a gunshot wound.

Van Otterloo says the Akron Ambulance crew transported the victim to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. An autopsy on the victim’s body was conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny. Their findings show that Hebert died of a shotgun wound to the chest and abdomen.

Sheriff Van Otterloo says 33-year old Becky J. Hebert of Akron was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree murder, a Class “B” Felony. She is accused of willfully and deliberately causing the victim’s death.
