Medicare Open Enrollment Deadline Is December 7th

Northwest Iowa — The Medicare Open Enrollment Period for this year is rapidly winding down, and experts say you should look to see if there might be some changes needed in your plan.

Joel Gesink, of Gesink & Vander Wilt Agency in Sheldon tells us more.

Gesink says that the prescription drug coverage is a part of Medicare.

Julie Brookhart of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services this is the one time of year when people can make changes to their plan.

Brookhart says it is a good time to compare plans to see if a change could cost you less.

She says there are some simple steps to take during the enrollment period to ensure that your plan is personalized to best address your health care needs.

Brookhart says you can also check to see if you qualify for payment help based on your income.

She says you can also get help from the state program called the Senior Help Insurance Information Program, or SHIIP. More than 600-thousand Iowans are enrolled in Medicare.

Brookhart and Gesink both say you can get more information from your local insurance agent, you can visit medicare.gov, or call 1-800-Medicare, which is 1-800-633-4227.
