Sheldon, Iowa — Several weeks ago we told you about a multi-state ambulance company that was planning to locate a facility in Sheldon. Midwest Medical Transport is a privately-owned company that specializes in facility-to-facility patient transfers. Last week the plans for a Sheldon location were realized when Midwest Medical Transport actually began operating out of their new facility in east Sheldon.
Matt Travers of Midwest Medical Transport says the Sheldon facility has been busy since beginning operation.
He says Sheldon was chosen as a central location for the area the company plans to serve, an area roughly from Worthington to LeMars and Spencer to Rock Valley.
Travers says the company is grateful for the support they have received so far.
He says that, while they have two trucks stationed at the Sheldon facility, at this point only one of them is staffed.
Travers says the business started in 1987, in Nebraska, with one truck, and has grown to more than 70 locations in Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. And he says that they haven’t limited themselves only to ground ambulances.
Midwest Medical Transport’s Sheldon location is in a building just to the north of the Sheldon Pizza Ranch in east Sheldon. In addition to garage and office space, the location also features a kitchen, bathrooms and sleeping quarters for their on-call staff.
