Date posted - November 28, 2012

Orange City, Iowa — A northwest Iowa high school marching band is getting ready to perform in the Tournament of Roses Parade in California on New Year’s Day, 2013.

The 170 members of the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band are preparing to depart for the journey to Pasadena, California.  The parade is the 124th Tournament of Roses Parade, and the theme this time is “Oh The Places You’ll Go!”  The band from MOC-Floyd Valley Senior High school begins its journey to the world-famous New Year’s Day event when it departs on December 27th for a seven day/six night trip to Southern California.

Selected because of its award-winning style in musical sound and excellence in precision marching, the band will be one of 20 bands from around the world performing in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade.   The Pride of the Dutchmen Band raised almost $300,000 over the past four years to finance the trip to Pasadena by selling pizza, counting recyclable cans and bottles, and through a unique “smart shopping” program sponsored by local retailers.
