NCC Seeks Buyers For Carpentry House Auction

2017 NCC HouseSheldon, Iowa — Basically every year since the 1960s, teams of carpentry and electrical students at Northwest Iowa Community College build a new home that is then auctioned off to the general public.

Ryan Cannoy is a Carpentry Instructor and the Coordinator of the House Project at NCC. He says he asked someone to look up the history of the house program, and he says the first house was sold in 1967.

This year’s house is being finished now on the campus of Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, says Cannoy.

He says even though they’re not done, you can come out and take a look at it if you’re interested.

Cannoy says anyone interested in buying the home should be advised that they will need to purchase some of the main light fixtures and floor coverings. He says potential owners will have to dig and prepare a foundation, and everything that’s typically under the house like heating and air (hvac) systems and some plumbing and electrical work. More information can be obtained here or by calling NCC at 1-800-352-4907 or 324-5061.
