Need To Shed Some Pounds? Live Healthy Challenge Can Help

Sheldon, Iowa — It’s the time of year when many of us think about fitness and getting healthy. If you’re the competitive kind, there’s a competition coming up that might help you meet those goals.

You can join thousands of Iowans in Live Healthy Iowa’s 10-Week Wellness Challenge. “Live Healthy Northwest Iowa” is a local take on the challenge, and Northwest Iowa Community College Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center Coordinator Greta Giese tells us that it’s a simple and affordable challenge providing you an opportunity to improve your health while engaging in a fun, friendly competition.

She tells us how it works.

Giese tells us that since they’ve been getting participation from several northwest Iowa communities and not just Sheldon in past years, they decided to change it from “Live Healthy Sheldon” to “Live Healthy Northwest Iowa.” Plus, she says it dovetails with the name of the college — Northwest Iowa Community College.

She says some teams will be big and some will be small. Some will have a lot of weight to lose, and some won’t have so much. But she says they’re making it fair for everyone.

You can sign up until January 14th with your team of two to ten people. You’ll have to decide if you’re going to focus on minutes of activity, weight loss, or both. Register at the LLRC at NCC or LLRC East near Sanford Sheldon.

According to Giese, there’s a discount for registering early.

Giese says each team member will also have a personal online dashboard to report and monitor progress and access valuable resources. She says if you have questions, you can call 324-2493 or 324-6152.
