Sheldon Development Director Curt Strouth says the event is designed to let high school sophomores know that there are opportunities for good-paying jobs here at home.

Strouth says that by targeting high school sophomores the group is more apt to reach students who have yet to firm up their plans for after high school.

He says that this event is the first of what is planned to be an annual event, and this year’s event will focus on opportunities in manufacturing here in O’Brien County.

The O’Brien County Career Day For Sophomores will be held Monday April 3rd, and Strouth tells us how it will work.

After lunch, Strouth says the students will climb back aboard their buses anad make one more visit to one of the participating manufacturers, before heading back to school.

Strouth stressed that the event would be impossible without the involvement of all the partners:  Sheldon Chamber & Development Corporation, O’Brien County Economic Development Corporation, Elevate Iowa, Northwest Iowa Community College, Sheldon Community School District, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Community Schools, and South O’Brien Community Schools.  As well as their Business Partners:  Maintainer of Sheldon, Rosenboom Machine & Tool of Sheldon, White Wolf Web of Sheldon, JTV Manufacturing in Sutherland, Mill Creek Machining at Paullina, Valero at Hartley, and Bogenrief at Hartley.
